   报告主要内容:

In the statistical description of ocean waves, the challenge is in finding a theoretical model that predicts the occurrences of the wave heights at the lowest probability levels. The seminar contributes to the characterization of the probabilistic structure of large waves in mixed seas with bimodal spectra from laboratory experiments, keeping in mind that the studied wave fields represent somewhat idealized situations of mixed unidirectional wave systems. In particular, the seminar discusses the validation of the applicability of the recently proposed generalized Boccotti's model for the large wave heights from these sea states.

  报告人简介:

Dr. Petya Petrova is a Research collaborator with the University of Lisbon. She is an oceanographer with experience in modelling, analysis and prediction of deep and shallow water waves, and particularly the ocean extremes known as abnormal waves. Obtained a PhD degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Lisbon on the topic of modelling the wave nonlinearity of large and abnormal waves, and then continued with a post-doctoral project on probabilistic description of waves in complex sea states with bimodal spectra. Worked over two years for Lloyds Register Marine & Offshore on resolving software feature requests to improve the in-house software tools for fatigue and structural design assessment.
