Preben Terndrup Pedersen is employed as Strategic Scientist at Wuhan University of Technology, China from 2016.
Preben Terndrup Pedersen is a fellow of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Foreign Member of the Norwegian Academy of Technical Sciences, Foreign Member of The Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters. He is a Professor Emeritus in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. He is a expert in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering and has great contribution in the topic of marine structures, especially in ship collisions and grounding. He has published 13 books and more than 100 papers in international journals, and is member of several international organisations and of the Editorial Board of 6 scientific journals.
In 2006 he was awarded the Davidson Medal from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, USA, for outstanding scientific accomplishment in ship research. In 2009 he was awarded the Alexander Foss Gold Medal for achievements within technical sciences from the Technical University of Denmark and the Danish Maritime Price for contributions to innovation and growth of the Danish maritime sector. In 2010 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Maritime Academics at ShipTek, Dubai. He was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology for contributions to research within marine structures, and received the Confederation of European Maritime Technology Societies (CEMT) 2010 Award for significant contributions to European shipbuilding. In 2015 he was appointed as a Foreign Expert of "1000 Foreign Talents Plan", China.
