The discipline of NAOE was founded in 1946，which was among the first batch of these having degree authorization. Its secondary disciplines including design and manufacture of ships and marine structures as well as marine engineering were authorized to confer master’s degree in 1981，doctor’s degree in 1983，respectively. Both the two secondary disciplines were granted as the Key Subjects of Ministry of Transportation and State Key Subjects in 1997 and 2001, respectively. Besides, our discipline established the Post Doctoral Mobile Station for the primary discipline of NAOE in 1996, was authorized to confer doctor’s degree of primary discipline of NAOE in 2000, and was granted the State Key Discipline of primary discipline of NAOE in 2007, one of the only three in China. Since 1981，our discipline has been the member unit of NAOE discipline consultative group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. In addition, our school was accepted as the member of International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) in 1985. Transportation Engineering was founded in 1946. This discipline was certificated as one of the earliest Master’s Program in Transportation Engineering in China. In 1996, the Ph.D. Program in Vehicle Operation Engineering was established, which is a sub-discipline in Transportation Engineering. In 2003, the Ph.D. Program and the Postdoctoral Program were established in the discipline of Transportation Engineering. Although many universities in Hubei Province have degree programs in Transportation Engineering, our school has been the only university that has the award of “Hubei Key Discipline in Transportation Engineering” in the entire province. Since 1981, this discipline has been a member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in Transportation Engineering. Since 2003, it has served as the Co-Chair of the National Educational Guidance Committee for Master of Engineering (ME) Program.
